I am a Toronto-based Canadian artist, working in the field of photography. I specialize in travel, landscape and nature photography. I travel so you don't have to!
My photography is usually the result of serendipity. I don’t tend to go out with a preconceived shot in my head, seeking a specific arrangement of things that tell that exact story. Rather, I keep my eyes and mind open for an alignment of things that convey their story to me. I look for mystery in the mundane and am always on the lookout for the narrative of urban or unpopulated landscapes. I travel to places that fill me with awe and wonder at our universe, reminding me that as humans, we are rather insignificant in the face of Mother Nature’s vast landscapes. I try to capture what silence looks like. These are the stories I look to tell through my lens.
In the beginning...my artistic side showed itself through live performance (music and theatre). When I joined the business world, it morphed into the written word. It felt like a natural progression to go from 30 years of written communications to visual storytelling through photography. Now I tell my stories through digital photography. (For those who like the tech details, I use a Panasonic Lumix mirrorless camera.)
A life-long exposure to Japanese art has given me an appreciation for clean, spare lines, and fine details. I spent 16 years studying flying trapeze with a circus school in Toronto (my home and native land), which had a profound influence on how I view the world and my life. I’ve had the good fortune to travel to some inspiring locations in North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa.
In 2016, I left the corporate world to pursue a career as a full-time artist. In 2019, I was accepted as a member into the Ontario Society of Artists, Canada’s longest continuing art society, founded in 1872.
